California State University Bakersfield was founded in 1965 and has changed its name a couple of times since then. Occupying an area of 375 acres, the university is considered the 20th school in the California educational system. Its extended program choices include Natural Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business, with some programs considered unique on the whole West Coast, such as a Petroleum Geology program.
